The current geopolitical situation with a serious threat and an ongoing war in Europe makes it urgent to increase military capability as soon as possible. The Development Department at the Defense Staff is looking for someone who wants to be a cog in that effort.
About the Unit
The Strategy Unit at the Defense Staff is part of the central leadership and headquarters of the Armed Forces. We produce materials for the Chief of Defense's military strategic leadership in areas such as defense planning, international relations, strategic planning, and development. The Development Department consists of approximately 35 employees who prepare, direct, and follow up on research, studies, technology development, innovation, and development collaborations both nationally and internationally.
Main Responsibilities
As an employee at the Development Department, you will handle cases that are often complex, have limited input values, require collaboration with many stakeholders, and operate at a high pace. You should be able to lead the preparation of cases from task analysis to presentation for the decision-making manager, often in collaboration with various parts of the Armed Forces as well as with external parties nationally and internationally. The result can range from a strategic concept to messages for a high-level meeting. You are expected to contribute with method development, innovative thinking, and creativity in an exciting and important operation aimed at the Armed Forces' capability development.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Academic degree in a relevant field
- Experience working in the Armed Forces or another related defense authority
- Experience in practical project management and collaboration with many stakeholders
- Very good knowledge of Swedish and English. You express yourself well in both spoken and written forms in both languages
Personal Qualities
As a person, you are positive, curious, and have a humble attitude towards colleagues and tasks. You enjoy being part of a team and have good collaboration skills while also being able to work independently and enjoy taking your own initiatives. You are analytical and structured and good at keeping track of important dates and deliveries. You are also good at setting boundaries, summarizing, and reaching conclusions. You have good communication and presentation skills and easily create good relationships and networks. In addition to formal qualifications, great importance is placed on personal qualities.

Start date: as soon as possible, by agreement.
Position type: permanent civilian employment full-time, starting with a six-month probationary period.
Work location: the position is based at the Headquarters in Stockholm.

Information about the recruiting unit:
At the Headquarters, there is the Chief of Defense and the Director General. The Headquarters has about 1,000 employees – both professional officers and civilian experts. As of January 1, 2023, the Headquarters consists of the Defense Staff, Operations Management, Military Intelligence and Security Service, as well as the Headquarters' Staff Department and independent supervisory units.
An employment with us means placement in a security class. Usually, Swedish citizenship is required. A security review with a registry check will be conducted prior to employment according to Chapter 3 of the Security Protection Act. With employment comes an obligation to be assigned to war. The nature of this varies depending on the type of position.
